Aurelio

A typeface inspired by the Roman Trajan Capitals. Aurelio is many things: classic but modern, minimalistic though friendly, eponymous yet anonymous. Its letters are strong and enigmatic. Equal parts hubris and Platonic ideal, Aurelio recalls the past as something greater than it was.  

The realization of Aurelio spans a period of 5 years, beginning with intensive preparatory studies of letterforms through a concentrated practice of calligraphy. The font specimen is presented as a publication surrounded by visual relics of Ancient Rome and text drawn from the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
